Feel the BURN.

Exercise is crucial to any healthy lifestyle. As someone who grew up playing basketball since I was 10 years old, I have always been active. I crave a workout that makes me sweat. Same goes for when I teach my fitness class. I don't want to waste my students time, so I go intense for a full 60 minutes. I don't always have time for the gym though, so I rely on exercise dvds for the BURN.

My FAVS?

If you want results quick make sure your switching up your routines at least once every few weeks. When your muscles aren't being challenged, you burn less calories and your body will inevitably plateau. To BUST out of this, you need to change it up! If you love to run trying adding intervals where you sprint for 2 minutes and then jog for 1. Be creative!

My favorite treadmill interval workouts can be found here:

Another really great thing to do, especially if you have cardio machines at home is to do a few minutes of running, the elliptical, or the bike and every few minutes add a strength training move or a cardio move like pliometrics (these are great for burning fat in a short period of time). Once you do that move for a minute or two go back to the machine! Some of my favorites are:

How do you boost your motivation?

  1. Thanks for the recommendations! I've been looking for some new home workout videos. I think I'll give some of these a try.

  2. I rip out workouts from various fitness magazines that I get and keep them in a binder but don't really buy any dvds. I just found out that the exercise videos OnDemand are free so lately I have been using those and love them! I'll have to see if any of your recommendations are on there.

  6. Thank you for sharing those treadmill workouts!

I know I like Yoga Meltdown (as well as Yoga Sculpt and the Yoga Works series that you can find on Exercise TV) for workout videos.

As for motivation - sometimes I have to really "force" a workout, but really it's more of a matter of if I'm in the mood for a long run, yoga, or a short run with some ab work. I think the key is being able to have a choice.

  7. Awesome suggestions. I used to LOVE the show 'Caribbean Workout' when it was still on the air. You can buy some older DVD versions of the show, but I've yet to find new DVD's or even new episodes. She does all sorts of different workouts, but I used to LOVE the muscle conditioning and toning episodes. I can't wait to take a look at the treadmill links!
