Holey Donuts!

Lately, I have been craving something sweet, especially with fall in the air. I came across a doughnut recipe from Health magazine that is so good and to mention a huge investment in the calorie bank. I wanted to share it with all of you! And, lets be honest. Who DOESN'T like donuts?

Here is what you need:
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup low-fat buttermilk (1%)
2 large eggs
1/4 cup honey
2 tablespoons melted butter
1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees and lightly coat a doughnut pan
2. Combine flours and next 4 ingredients (through salt) in a large bowl, stirring well with a whisk
3. Combine buttermilk, eggs, honey, butter, and vanilla. Add buttermilk to mixture; whisk just until combined
4. Spoon batter into doughnut pans, filling two-thirds full. Bake in middle of oven until doughnuts spring back when touched and are golden on bottom (about 8 minutes)

If you want to top them with toppings, do it while they are a bit warm, especially if you want to roll them in cinnamon and sugar, which is what I made!

I also know of a website that has low-fat gourmet donuts that are in low in calories and fat. Perfect for a healthy splurge!
